Senior Pastor: Paul Bergmann

Pastor Paul Bergmann's Family

Pastor Paul Bergmann, his wife Kathy, and their four children - Nicole, Joshua, Jared and Gracie - accepted the position of Senior Pastor at Ojai Valley Community Church on February 1, 1998.

Paul is a first generation American, his parents and sister were born and raised in what was the Dutch East Indies and is now Indonesia. Paul grew up in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and attended Granada Hills High School. He was introduced to football and ended up on the receiving end of two-time Super Bowl Champion, John Elway. That led to back-to-back Rose Bowl Championships for UCLA. He went on to play four years of professional football before going into full time ministry, studying under Dr. Charles Ryrie in 1988, and becoming ordained in 1995.

Paul enjoys yelling from the side lines as his daughter plays volleyball for SBCC, watching at Lake Casitas as his son gets calluses on his hand from rowing crew, screaming at coaches as his son plays soccer, and at his youngest, Gracie's, basketball games. He loves watching football on his big screen TV and spending any free time he has with his best friend and lover, Kathy.

You can also find Paul at home watching theology and history classes online or reading works by: Chuck Swindoll, Phillip Yancy, Brian McLaren, C.S. Lewis, Brennan Manning, N.T. Wright, Shane Claiborne, Tony Campolo and Ched Myers.

Paul identifies himself as a failed pacifist who might get in a scuffle or two, and isn’t super fond of Christianity; although he loves Jesus and loves teaching his followers.

When he closes his eyes he pictures Jesus in a tuxedo shirt, and sees Jesus as formal, but liking parties.
